Title: Keep your guard up
Post by: Dread Pirate Roberts on June 22, 2011, 01:49 am
Hi everyone,
Things are going really well here.  There are many new buyers and sellers working well together, our servers are secure and humming along, and you may even start to feel comfortable.  DO NOT get comfortable!  This is not wal-mart, or even amazon.com.  It is the wild west and there are as many crooks as there are honest businessmen and women.  Keep your guard up and be safe, even paranoid.  If you buy from someone without reputation, get to know them really well through pm, and even then be suspicious.  Unfortunately it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch, and there are bad apples out there.  We've received some threatening messages and just want everyone to stay alert and careful.

Thanks for the heads up SR. Personally I don't do business with anyone without feedback, and even once feedback is established I'm wary because there are people faking feedback. That's unfortunate that you've been getting threatened though. Has it been LE or just angry sellers who want to be able to scam?(if you don't mind me asking, that is) Good luck and keep fighting!

I'm sure there's a seller on here with a pill for that!

Im going to be a new vendor. How do I get positive feedback If no-one is supposed to order unless they have some? Its like the chicken and the egg.. AM I going to have to "give" something away first? I would think that by using escrow that everyone is somewhat protected. What do you suggest I do?

Low-cost, small quantity samples are a good idea, as well as a demonstration to the community that you handle things professionally.  I am guessing (hoping) from your username you will be supplying opiates?

Yep, you got it. The only thing that is holding me back a bit is getting the bitcoins back to cash to me...

If nobody ever took a chance, we'd never go anywhere, here.  I got burnt twice while SR was down, over on BlackMarket.  It was just on a couple small quanities of opiates, and I didn't take it bad.  It was a new site, it wasn't the owner's fault...nature of the game.  If it's the right opiate, and the seller is willing to sell small quantities, and acts right, I'll risk a bit.  I don't believe in 'free samples', as IMO that's a con to get people to buy, since it sounds *so* honest.  Start small, be friendly, be quick..and be careful :)

@j789745: The whole site isn't a scam, but many of the users are. It doesn't offer an escrow service like SR does, so it's much easier to scam. There are also people using fake identities with the usernames of reputable sellers from SR (although these should be pretty easy to figure out via their public keys). I wouldn't write the site off completely, as they may expand their security/safety features, but be really careful. You're not just giving away your bitcoins. You're giving your address to a stranger!

There isn't a single positive review on safeorscam.com. I doubt there are any legitimate sellers on BM that aren't already on SR.

SR was down, and the rumors were flying: nobody I chatted with seemed too sure what was up.  At that time, I was not aware of OVDB, and I was messing around on the bitcoins forum, where us silkroaders aren't too popular, and this guy said he was starting a new forum, so I went, and figured, "Why not?" and tried a couple of vendors.  Both were busts.  I believed the owner meant well, myself, but I think he--and all us buyers--found out just how hard it is to pull this off.  As, if they can, the two-bit bottom feeders will quickly take over site, give each other feedback, and make money and split, which is what happened, IMO.

The other problem was the libertarian notion that he would allow *anything* to be sold, it appeared, and that seemed to include forms of pornography even outlaws find repugnant.  And this attracted another sort of ferocious attention by groups that we don't want to get on the bad side of.

So there you are: BM didn't pan out, and just made me that much more grateful when SR came back up, and very appreciative of what they do.  Still a bit nervy lately, hoping all on here is what it appears to be...as I've said: as a buyer, it's not the ripoffs I worry about.  It's not the computer privacy that I worry about.  It begins with a hope the seller is who he appears to be...and It's the very last part of this transaction when I'm seriously exposed: that worries me.  And should, IMO.

Yes, get to know your sellers, but also get to know buyers too.  Get to know them and who has bought from who.  Check the forums for positive reviews, PM the other buyers.

DAMN good advice. The working relationship is key, on both sides. I've been blown away how great everyone is!!! But like SR says, don't get complacent...I've had some contact w obvious scammers or LE or just plain nutz.

Don't get to comfortable is right. You know how easy it was for me to access this site.Think about what others with the wrong motives could do. If ppl would keep their mouths shut and business clean it would fine.

speaking of which, can we have a forum for reporting people who rip us off? i know you have a feedback system and all, but i purchased something off of sr (i know, my fault) and so i have no recourse of using the feedback system, and i'm not sure what forum to badmouth the seller heh

"This ain't Amazon or EBay, this the wild wild west."

I think this is a really good way to put it.  While sitting in front of your computer at home, you can start to think you are safe.  But you are buying illegal things on SR.  So it's probably very healthy to be a little paranoid when doing business on here.

I just want to say that, for my first ever darknet order, I used BM and it went wonderfully. 14g of AA cali medical priced at $106. Can't beat that. There are definitely scammers everywhere, maybe I got lucky, but there are plenty of legit people on BM. They now have an escrow as well! I can say for sure that BM, FM, SR and Para are the safest places to use. I feel comfortable using. Fuck it. We'll do it live!
